Judging Criteria
Overall Handling & Practicality
Horses are judged on their ability to handle the calf effectively, which includes making it practical to the point of a successful tie and maintaining control throughout the maneuver.
Scoring & Leaving the Box
The horse must be responsive to the rider's hand, calm in the box, and leave immediately when cued; seeking the calf. Tracking: Lock onto the calf's position and track it in any direction
Run & Rating
Accelerate to the calf and match the calf's speed, so the roper can get a throw
Stop
The horse must execute a smooth and correct stop, staying straight while also maintaining good timing.
Working the Rope
Horse must pull while calf is being flanked and maintain tension on the rope while it is being tied. Horse should hold the calf without walking toward or dragging the calf.
